Preparing your static caravan for the new season

Sell your static caravan

Have a spring clean and complete a full check.
We suggest you do not leave preparing your static caravan for the new season until the last minute, instead plan ahead and consider exactly what is needed. If there is something broken or damaged, if you are aware in advance you will be able to ensure everything is ready for when you want to start using your static caravan.  Allow time to check over your caravan. Static caravans are prone to mould, especially around windows, doors and ceiling joints. If there are any areas of poor ventilation mould can quickly form, especially in the bathroom. A dehumidifier will help remove moisture from the area and you can buy special cleaning products to remove signs of damp – follow the instructions. Start as you mean to go on – allow time for a full clean – if you live far away from your static caravan or just need help ask your caravan park who will probably have a list a people locally who would carry out a full clean for you.

Check over the exterior of the static caravan
Whilst you are preparing your static caravan for the new season as well as checking the interior of your static caravan you should also consider the exterior. Over the winter the site may have been subjected to strong winds, storms and snow, which can cause damage. Pay attention to the skylights, seals, guttering and any potential holes or cracks in the panels.

Check the water supply to the taps and toilet and look out for any problems
If the water supply has been turned off you will need to turn the connection back on, although you should check that all taps are off before connecting. Once the water is connected, leave the taps to run for a few minutes and flush the toilet. Check the shower hose connection and test the shower taps and bath taps if applicable. This will help the cold and hot water flow through the caravan and release any airlocks. Once the water is back on initially keep an eye out for any damp patches especially on carpets/flooring and around toilet/shower and under the water heater just in case any problems have arisen whilst the water has been turned off.

Keep the caravan cool during hot periods for you and your pets
There are many ways to help keep your static caravan cool when the temperature rises, for example:
Open windows to release the warm air.
Install fans to circulate the cool air throughout your static caravan.
Replace winter duvets with thinner summer bedding.
Close blinds when possible, the darkness will help keep out the heat of the sun.
There are portable air conditioning units available, which use cool water or ice as a coolant.

Keep an eye on your pets – make sure they are not too hot inside the caravan and provide plenty of drinking water. If your pets are allowed outside make sure there is an area of shade they can use and that they keep cool.

Once you have checked everything over and carried out any work required you are ready for the new season.
